Each week, our blog will feature two members of the WVU football team! It’s your chance to learn a little more about them before they step out on the field!
Gary Jennings Jr.
Number: 12
Position: WR
Hometown: Stafford, VA
Height: 6ft 1in
Weight: 209 Pounds
Gary Jennings Jr. is one of the three big offensive weapons for Will Grier and the Mountaineers this season. Tied with David Sills for touchdowns on the season as well as accounting for over 360 receiving yards on 26 receptions, Jennings is a key part in the Mountaineers success. Coming off an injury his senior year of high school, Jennings wasn’t a highly sought out WR in the country but has since proven his worth and talent on the football field.
Playing 13 games his freshman year, Jennings hauled in seven catches for 116 yards and a touchdown. Playing behind stars like Shelton Gibson and Daikiel Shorts, Jennings was able to learn from them and become the top wide out he is today. Entering his senior year, Jennings was ready to prove that he was a receiver not to be messed with and in his first game against Tennessee, he rang up 113 yards and a touchdown. With a Heisman caliber quarterback in Will Grier and Jennings’s talent on the field, there is no telling what he can do in the second half of the 2018 college football season.
Ezekiel Rose
Number: 5
Position: Defensive Lineman
Hometown: Clarksdale, Mississippi
Height: 6ft 2in
Weight: 276 pounds
Ezekiel Rose had a somewhat unordinary start to his football career. After having a rough go during his high school years, Rose found himself at East Mississippi Community College also known as the home of Netflix’s award winning show, Last Chance U. There Rose learned to hone his skills as a defensive player and eventually bringing himself to a new home at West Virginia University his junior year.
Rose came into his senior season with big hopes and didn’t come up short as he was a large part in WVU’s first win of the season against Tennessee, where he recorded two solo tackles. Ezekiel Rose has three official tackles on the year as well as being a huge disruption to opposing offensive lines. With Rose’s quick footwork and strong build, getting to the quarterback should be no problem in future games.
