Player Profiles: Beetle Bolden and Andrew Gordon

Meet Beetle Bolden and Andrew Gordon in this week’s Player Profile. It’s your chance to learn a little more about them before they take the court.

James Bolden began his freshman career averaging 5.8 minutes per game with an average of 3.5 points per game. During this season, he had many accolades including his career high of 17 points against Oklahoma and being named to the Academic All-Big 12 Men’s Basketball Second Team. In the 2017-2018 season, he grew more as a player gaining more opportunities to play while making a difference in games. During some of the biggest games of the season Bolden stepped up by scoring against Kentucky, Texas and Baylor. He increased his average points per game to 8.7% while also playing in all 37 games. We are looking forward to seeing what Bolden has in store for us during his season as junior.

gordon_andrewAndrew Gordon

Gordon is entering his sophomore year here at West Virginia University coming from Northwest Florida State College. He sat out last season due to a knee injury, but is more than healthy joining the Mountaineers this year. He averaged 3.7 points and 3.6 rebounds per game as a freshman in Florida with 75.4 percent from the field. He began playing football as a wide receiver then later transitioned to basketball. Gordon’s youthful energy during the games gets the fans excited to cheer on the Mountaineers. His  enthusiasm jolted the fans during a rivalry game against the University of Pittsburgh, ending in victory.

 

Player Profiles: Lamont West and Emmitt Matthews Jr.

Meet Lamont West and Emmitt Matthews Jr. in this week’s Player Profile. It’s your chance to learn a little more about them before they take the court.

Lamont West is a junior from Cincinnati, Ohio. He attended Miller Grove High School. West finished his career there by leading the team to a 27-4 record.

He began his WVU career in 2016-2017 season. During that year, he was named to the Academic All-Big 12 Men’s Basketball Second Team and he played in all 37 games. In addition, West made 35 3-point field goals and shot 76.5 percent from the free throw line. Last season, he started in 20 games, playing in 36. He shot 55 3-pointers and had his first career double-double.

This season, West put up 27 points against Saint Joseph’s and played 31 minutes against Jacksonville State. He averages 11.6 points per game.

West is majoring in sport management and has earned a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

matthews_jr_emmittEmmitt Matthews Jr.

Hailing from Tacoma, Washington, Emmitt Matthews Jr. joined the Mountaineers this year as a freshman. Matthews attended Woodrow Wilson High School and led the team to the 3A state tournament and averaged 22.3 points per game. He is now Woodrow Wilson’s all-time winningest player.

Since playing for WVU, Matthews has seen action in most games. He scored a season-high 11 points against Rider and had 5 rebounds against Valparaiso in which he played for 21 minutes.

Matthews is enrolled in undergraduate studies.
